Leslie Houston
Leslie Houston is a Special Education Teacher at Braddock Elementary. This is her second career as she was a journalist for approximately 15 years before deciding to become a teacher. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree is Mass Communications from Grambling State University, a Master of Arts degree in Human Relations from The University of Oklahoma, and a Master of Education degree in Special Education from George Mason University.
She is the wife of a retired United States Air Force military officer and the proud mother of two sons. Through her travels as a military wife, Mrs. Houston has had the opportunity to serve on executive boards that impact the lives of children in the communities in which she has lived. She is a youth mentor for teens at risk as well as a motivational speaker who encourages youth to become leaders and active participants within their communities.
In 2013, Mrs. Houston was named Military Spouse of the Year for Tinker AFB, Oklahoma. Through this forum, she had the opportunity to educate parents and military leaders about special education laws, the special education process such as the Individualized Education Program (IEP) or 504 Plan, and how to navigate the educational system through advocacy.
