Ms. Matthews Recognized with an FCPS Excellence Award!

Congratulations to Joyce Matthews who was recognized in the "Impact on Others" category at the 2018 FCPS Excellence Awards Ceremony for her efforts in enriching and enhancing Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics curriculum with engaging activities and events.

a photo from the fcps excellence awardsThe FCPS Excellence event was held at Fairfax High School on October 16 and was attended by Superintendent Dr. Scott Brabrand, members of the FCPS Leadership Team, members of the FCPS School Board, Braddock Elementary School Principal Keesha Jackson-Muir, and other distinguished guests. The following excerpt from his nomination packet was read while she received her certificate from Dr. Brabrand, Assistant Superintendent, Region 2 Fabio Zuluaga and members of the School Board.

Ms. Matthews is truly XSTREAM when it comes to educating all members of the Braddock Elementary School Community!  Ms. Matthews is always excited about enriching and enhancing Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics curriculum with activities and events that will engage and ignite students to explore the world of STEAM thus encouraging and nurturing students to become productive and innovative community serving citizens.  During her thirty-four years with FCPS, Ms. Matthews has utilized the tools of technology and engineering to “Hook” students into learning the importance of becoming life-long learners who take responsibility for their educational experiences. Ms. Matthews has truly made a difference for students by involving them in robotics, gardening, coding, engineering, music, dance, environmental action and numerous interactive activities that open the doors of amazing possibilities for future careers. Congratulations and keep being XSTREAM, Ms. Matthews!
